Here’s to a 2026 of upgraded perspectives and downgraded drama
So much has happened in 2025 that much of it is now quite a blur. The year saw some of the most historic creative leadership changes in decades, reshaping the DNA of major heritage houses, so much so that it has been dubbed “The Great Reshuffle”. How it will all pan out is not yet certain. To us, many of the debuts were underwhelming. While the headlines were largely enthusiastic acclaim for the runway results, for many, these transitions felt disjointed. We’ve also witness what can only be described as disposable culture when Dario Vitale was out as soon as he was in at Versace. A reshuffle in a luxury house is no hustle on the dancefloor. Or at least not in 2025, when musical chairs were really played for corporate big-wigs. Revolution, however, is not a quarterly target, and moving the same three designers around the same three chairs just produced the same tired beat.
In 2025, fashion quickly discerned that a border wall was ultimately harder to scale than a paywall. The Trump administration spent the year turning the supply chain into an obstacle course, even when most people in this part of the world have not understood or felt the effects. Despite the ugliness America had been exporting this past year, a blind eye was turned to the chaos that resulted, just as many on our shores ignored the brand baggage of Chick-fil-A to embrace the fast food chain and join the massive queues at their first restaurant here. While the administration continued to sell America First and “reshoring” to move production out of China, their Latin American “gunboat diplomacy” is not exactly the calm waterway to a better tomorrow. Regardless of how the tide will turn, we wish one and all a peaceful New Year, and a stylish one.
