A Winning Case

An eyewear holder from COS ticks all the right boxes

By Ray Zhang

With the blazing sun dominating most days, I find myself wearing dark shades whenever I am out and about. Problem is, I need prescription glasses, and I do not particularly like switching between what my vision requires and what comfort and eye-health professional recommend: sunglasses. I did find a solution—spectacles that welcome clip-on shades especially those offered by Japanese eyewear chains, such as Owndays. The problem is (or, perhaps, just my problem) that I have no place to store the clip-on if I do not bring along the clunky boxes that come with the glasses. That means I would loose the clip-on, and I have—many times.

So when I saw these at COS, I was really quite happy. I have spotted similar versions in past seasons at their stores, but they were often sold out by the time I decided to score one. I can understand the appeal as they cost a fraction of those that Prada offers. And they are, according to COS, made of and lined with leather that is chrome-free, which means that no chromium was used during processing, rendering the hide safer to the environment. That’s extra points for what is already a handsome spectacle case. I also like that it comes with a lanyard (removable for other uses, such as a strap for your smartphone) that is attached to a circular carabineer, which allows the case itself to be hooked to belt loops or wherever it can hang from to keep your eyewear close by. That is, no doubt, handy.
