Click And Wear

For the winter season, Jony Ive and Moncler have come together to put out some delightful outerwear that snaps on to an inner, and voila!

The London-born product designer Jony Ive has been dubbed the “genius behind Apple’s greatest products”. Now he is proving his mettle in fashion with Moncler through a line called LoveFrom, Moncler. One of the styles launched recently in the British capital is layerable outerwear described as ‘modular shell jackets’. This is a system that can be adapted to be worn, for instance, at different times of the day when the temperature can vary. There is a base item on which other garments can be worn to add different levels of warmth or wind protection. And each is no heavier than the other as they are made from nylon (unfortunately, not recycled). Separate garments designed to be worn together are not entirely new. What’s unique about Mr Ive’s pieces is how they easily come together through strategically-placed circular magnetic fastening that allow the top layer to click to the bottom quickly and easily, and be secured.

The foundation layer is a zip-front, almost cardigan-like down jacket that is dubbed “Moncore”. There is a “seamless construction” to the comfortably roomy piece; apparently no seams even when seams are inevitable such as at the shoulder and the armhole. The garment is clean-finished, with the magnetic fastening strategically and attractively placed—basically at the waist in front; near the hem of both the sleeves; and at the top, centre-back. You can then easily top the pillowy Moncore with a parka or a field jacket and, when inclement weather arrives, even throw on a poncho, all in a quartet of pastel colours that some might find a tad too spring-like for winter climes. And as they are slipped on, each clicks into place with minimum adjustment from you, the wearer. How neat is that?
