Another One For Candy

Kate Spade collaborates with M&M’s. The are coin purses and handbags. Whichever you choose, they hold a lot of chocolate candy

After Fendi’s collaboration with Chupa Chups, it was a matter of time before some brand would team up with another candy maker. We were, in fact, thinking of M&M’s at the time, and true enough, they are now embraced by a fashion label. Kate Spade has announced their pairing with the Mars brand, and there is nothing surprising about the product line-up. You get the usual M&M’s chocolate candy-shaped bag and coin purse, and a crossbody in the shape of the yellow wrapper. On top of those, there are charm bracelet dangling with the candies, as well as earrings that sport the familiar rounds of sweet treats for each ear. Surprisingly, no bag charms.

There is nothing especially clever about the designs of any of the items. They are in the likeness of the candy. You might even mistake all of them for items that are gifts with M&M’s purchases or, in the case of the smaller ones, articles you’d get from the gashapon machine. They would be cute to many Kate Spade fans (identified by the brand as Gen-Z shoppers), and that is about it. Although, the brand does not say that their bags are for storing the colourful chocolate pieces, there is nothing to stop you from doing so. It would take a lot of M&Ms to fill the handbag, but as the brand used to tout, the chocolate “melts in your mouth, not in your hands”. And, unlikely in your bag.
