No New Song, But A New Brand

How does one go from Dior to Tommy Hilfiger? Blankpink’s Jisoo did

Unlike her group mates, Jisoo—Kim Ji-soo—has not released a new single these past months. But she has found herself a new brand to be the face of: Tommy Hilfiger. Although her career as a solo vocalist has paused, her career as a fashion brand ambassador clearly has not. Tommy Hilfiger just announced that Ms Kim is the brand’s new face, and together with that, released a set of photographs of her, shot in New York, for their fall campaign. Ms Kim looked her usual delicate and delightful and sweet self, but without real fashion punch, outfitted in sensible clothes that would inevitably be described as “preppy classics”. This is acceptable, catalogue-bland because the wearer is one of the world’s biggest star.

Not that Jisoo encapsulated the spirit of high fashion for Dior. Since a local representative for the French house in 2019 and then their global brand ambassador in 2021, Ms Kim has mostly been the docile clothes horse that Dior has paid her to be. All she needed to do was to look pretty. It is near impossible to recall what she wore that was especially memorable. To be certain, Jisoo’s fronting an American brand is not the first among the Blackpink members. Back in 2021, Jennie was the face of Calvin Klein’s spring/summer season. Of her latest fashion venture, Kim Ji-Soo said in a statement, “partnering with Tommy Hilfiger is a dream come true,” Cliché aside, what does that make her teaming up with Dior?
